Back in Europe!!!

- After nearly 1 1/2 years exiting experiences and hard but joyful running
I am back in Europe. When having seen 3 other continents literally step by
step its fantastic to be back to the well-known again; its feels like
sitting in the back garden after having been away from your house in ages
:-)

But for now I will leave the word and writing to my Irish co-ordinator,
Tony Mangan; world record holder on 48hour treadmill running. Tony will
crew and run with me all the way to his hometown Dublin, on the Irish East
Coast, from where I the 16. October is scheduled to fly to the U.K. for
the final 7days of running into London.

Tony Mangan:
"Birdhill, Tipperary County:

Jespers flight arrived in Shannon Airport at an ungodly hour of 6:30am.
this morning. I had driven through a rain soaked night from my home in
Dublin to meet the clean cut Running Machine which I had been following
from the start of the run.

He got a great welcome in the arrivals hall and then I realised how humble
a man he is too.
After a cup of coffee and a telephone interview from a Dublin journalist
we loaded his stroller, suitcase and bags of souvenirs he had picked up
along the route into my car and then realized just how methodical he is
too.
"Walking doest count" said Jesper, "I have only walked twice for 5 minutes
in the entire World Run".

We went back to the terminal and the man with the white T-shirt and black
shorts was now kitted out in a windbreaker and thermal running tights. It
was 12c and the rain had just stopped. There was a cold headwind. A few
moments were spent recording and logging the start coordinates, taking
photos and writing an entry in the Irish logbook.

Jesper was off and running towards the Airport Exit. He didnt appear to be
jetlagged from his flight from New York - If anything he was probably
running a bit too fast after a rare couple of rest days.

Jesper ran 5km legs and stopped for drinks of cola, biscuits & chocolate.
He would only stop for a couple of minutes never sitting down and always
stretching. This is probably the reason he has never had an injury in over
20years of running.

Soon we were passing through Limerick City. Me driving ahead and the Real
Running man running at a nice steady pace of 10 KPM.

At this stage the road was divided and Jesper chose to run with the
traffic to his back. I drove behind him in the hard shoulder.

As the day wore on he seemed to be getting stronger. I couldnt believe I
was crewing for this new Legend of Ultra running.

He wasnt supposed to be coming to the Emerald Isle (Ireland) till I
emailed and asked him why he wasnt coming to Ireland !!!!
Was it because of the rain or was it because of the pubs !? The World
Runner hadnt taken a drink since Siberia when a Russian had offered him
vodka. Jesper had said yes and was given a pint glass of it !
I guess he had to take a pledge. "I made a promise to myself that I
wouldnt take a drink till the finish line".

Carlsberg UK are You listening. --- "Probably the best runner in the
world" !!

At the end of the 45km stage finish we commuted back to Limerick where the
"North Pole Marathon" race director and Irish ultra runner Richard Donovan
had sponsored 2 rooms & meals in Jurys Inn.
