World Run I / ReportsGoto: 2005-07-18 2005-07-20 USA 2005-07-19:Distance today: 51.0 km (Accumulated: 23567.0 km) Country: USA 2005.07.19. [Ellsworth; green city sign on Hwy. 10: "Ellsworth"] - [Durand; green city sign on Hwy. 10: "Durand"]. 51km, 4:47:04h. Excl. food, water, road-finding, toilet etc. stops Total 23526km. Start: 06:47am. Finish: 14:04pm. Time GMT - 7 hours +18c, clear and no wind at start. 29c, same and medium wind at finish. - Finally: a medium stage which was not a struggle to get through :-) As yesterday it?s very clear what a relief it is to have a crew. Even a 30km stage with the stroller is harder beyond comparison to these 50km stages with crew. Not because of the stroller itself, this is an excellent piece of equipment; but mainly because of the runner which is very very exhausted by now ;-) Today there was perhaps a bit too much time spend in "the pit" talking with the crew, but it?s hard not to when there finally is a chance to make an event out of the stage :-) By the way again a scenic terrain along the route: lots of rolling hills, small forests and a very twisty road with nice lookouts over the many valleys and especially glimpses of the Mississippi River valley. The country here is mostly farmlands with cattle or growing corn which stands tall and green at the moment - not yet ripe with the yellow cones. The cities I pass through are fairly small but as the case was with Minnesota the people here in Wisconsin (the State that I have run in since early yesterday) is almost always quite eager to help and have a pleasant interest in what?s going on out at the road ! - The next stages will be to: 20/7: Alma (on Highway 35). 21/7: Fountain City (Highway 35). 22/7: Trempleauteau (Highway 35). 23/7: La Crosse (Highway 35). |
