There was not much to hear from the heel injury but in order to let the development continue to follow that direction I decided to just run to the next town and then apply a lot of relax and motel to the injury :-) Several times I was stopped by cars and asked how far I was running etc. It never ceases to thrill me how friendly the Canadians are :-) I was humoursly warned that the prairies would be the home of the 'rednecks'. So far they especially has been straightforwardly friendly and very curious and interested in the run I am doing, and the 'on the route talks' with them is often the highlights of my day :-) Last.. like yesterday, a short note on the areas history: - In the early1880's the town of Whitewood was founded where the settlers expected the Canadian Pacific Railway to pass by (and it did, from 1882 :-). Whitewood became famous for the diverse nationalities that choose to make this place their new home; contemporary writer John Hawks: ".. Whitewood was in the eighties (1880') the most cosmopolitan point in the west. It was said that one should know eleven languages to do business in Whitewood.". Amongst the new Canadians: the first Finnish settlement in Canada ! Other early whitewooders was for example: Hungarians, Swedes, Germans, Russians, Poles, French, Belgian and Czechs (!). And now, 120years later, a Dane is running through.. ;-) |
