World Run I / ReportsGoto: 2005-05-16 2005-05-18 USA 2005-05-17: 11Distance today: 33.0 km (Accumulated: 21656.0 km) Country: USA 2005.05.17. [Irvine; green road sign on Hwy. 1: "Swift Current 187km"] - [Brown road sign on Hwy.1: "Cypress Hills, Interprovencial Parks", approx. 1/2km East of cross of Hwy.1 & Road 635]. 33km, 3:18:39h. Excl. food, water, road-finding, toilet etc. stops Total 21615km. Start: 10:32am. Finish: 14:22pm. Time GMT - 8 hours +13c, rain and light wind at start. 10c, same and med. wind at finish. - Saskatchewan! As mentioned yesterday I decided to do a short stage today to set aside energy to deal with the motivational side of the last major part of the run. But the little more than 30km today was "full value" ... rain and strong cold wind which gave light hypothermia while setting up the tent (cramps in hands and jaw) - I seem to have forgotten the winter mode a bit to quick ;-) - In a way the terrain and situation reminds a little bit of running into Western Siberia. Also there I, together with Alexander Korotkov and Kazuka, was impatiently waiting for summer and warm stabile weather to come (we exited the Ural Mountains and entered West Siberia middle May last year); and also there the horizon in front was flat farmlands with waste spaces between towns and supplies. - Only now, one year later, this is Saskatchewan, Canada; and the roads are far better :-) |
