World Run I / ReportsGoto: 2005-03-23 2005-03-25 USA 2005-03-24:Distance today: 40.0 km (Accumulated: 19562.0 km) Country: USA 2005.03.24 Street South > - 40km, 4:04:09h. Excl. food, water, road-finding, toilet etc. stops. Total 19.521km. Start: 10:25am. Finish: 15:02pm Time GMT - 8 hours +18c, grey overcast and light wind at start. 22c, half overcast and medium wind at finish. I have found out that there probably is something wrong with the simcard (Cingular) as I should have mobile signal in this area. Possibly the phone unit itself got damaged during the fall in the ravine last week. I found an Old Danish sincard in my electronics-bag and it actually worked in the Coos Bay area, so I sent the first two of the missing reports (11 and 12.March). After that the signal disappeared. It seems there is no end to the problems in this run right now. But I will keep taking what comes; and hope this piece of bad luck has less endurance than I ;-) :-) I suspect that I may have 1 small advantage in all these problems and injuries: as long as I can remember it has been my nature to become more determined the more problems or obstacles I face (I stupid mechanism, really ;-) but useful in some situations). I guess that made me a long distance runner by mind much earlier than when I actually did my first marathon as 15 years old (Helsinore Marathon 1985, 3:26h.). And that same mechanism kicked in today as I saw that the distance on the road signs was longer than the short 25km stage my map showed, which I had hoped for and which the body and mind needed to recover. At first - after some loud comments in Viking language ;-) - I planned to finish in a town nearer (Lakeside), but eventually decided to show that I don?t back down even if every single day holds a negative surprise right now. So I ran through Winchester Bay (planned finish point) and up to Reedsport instead. |
