- Accident!

Again the lack of roads for other traffic than cars provided a problem.

10km into the stage I found it too dangerous to be on the Freeway (there
were at stretches no alternative road to choose). Long looks at the map
only confirmed what I already researched yesterday: no alternative roads
for the next few miles. 20minutes of high-adrenalin running and I suddenly
saw a tiny road down along the river below the Freeway. After half a mile
of consideration and seeing a police car come by at opposite direction, I
made a (in the light of what happened) very bad decision:

I chose to stop and as careful as possible move down the slope to reach
the safer road (Hooker Creek Road).

The stroller with its total of 40kg slipped - and so did I, falling the
10meteres down onto the road below.
And as funny the scene might look the result was not so good. The left
wheel of the stroller got bent out of shape; I dislocated the thumb on the
left hand plus two wounds in the hand (I think the stroller landed on the
hand on the way down). And to make it complete I managed to hit the right
kneecap in the tarmac when the fall stopped.
The main problem at present was that the hand within minutes got swollen
so I couldn?t open or close it, thus I had to run on with only pushing the
stroller with the right hand. On more long term I am concerned with the
hit to the knee cap, but there is little I can do about it now.

- A very sad day for the run. I am only happy that I didn?t have
conditions like this at the main parts of the run.
