Today the "day of athletes"
is celebrated all through this huge country of Russia.
We are lucky to - due to hardship and injuries - be 14days behind our plan
!
Because this means that we today reached one of Siberia?s large cities,
Chita.
And tonight (while writing this) we are guests of honour at a banquet that
I (J.) have so far not experienced the like of in ways of luxury,
entertainment, 'VIP' from near and far; etc.
- A strong contrast to our everyday running life ! :-)
Our host city, Chita, started as a Cossack stronghold in 1653 (! early in
such remote areas) and was later one of the strategic military posts when
there was 'diplomatic ice' between China & Russia during the Chinese
Cultural Revolution.
Tomorrow we will have a closer look as we run through city centre and out
into the mountains.
Today?s stage: K. seems stable in her running now and I am coming back
from exhaustion during the difficult highland trail :-)
