World Run I / ReportsGoto: 2005-06-05 2005-06-07 USA 2005-06-06: 9Distance today: 42.0 km (Accumulated: 22469.0 km) Country: USA 2005.06.06. [Brandon; cross of Hwy.1 & Hwy.10] - [Cross of Hwy.1 & Hwy. 5, near the town of Carberry]. 42km, 4:19:18h. Excl. food, water, road-finding, toilet etc. stops Total 22428km. Start: 10:17am. Finish: 15:21pm. Time GMT - 7 hours +15c, half overcast and medium wind at start. 19c, overcast and same at finish. Another run in the gravel.. ;-) My adviser for the Canadian part of the run, Kevin Thompson, has researched the conditions of the road ahead and it looks like similar ?gravel days' are ahead until Toronto. As it?s considerably harder to run and push the stroller through gravel I am working on an alternative schedule with 40km/day for that 2000km stretch. This will mean approximate 2 weeks delay in the overall plan, but due to the exhaustion and near-injuries that has been a major concern lately, I think it will be sensible to adjust the schedule properly. After all, I am not as fresh as in the first 10 000km of the run... As those that has been following the run know, there has been other long stretches of difficult road conditions before - mainly the 3000km's of highland gravel roads in East Siberia (that was quite a challenge :-) - but the essential difference is that I at those parts of the run had support teams which meant that I didn?t have to push the stroller on top of the running. Actually I suspect that the unusual high degree of "near limit" fatigue lately is caused by the long stretch of pushing the 35 - 40kg extra weight, which else way has only been max. 1000km stretches between support. Though, the positive thing behind this is that I didn?t plan for teams, as I hardly could expect I'd actually make it that far :-)) |
