World Run I / ReportsGoto: 2005-05-26 2005-05-28 USA 2005-05-27: 14Distance today: 46.0 km (Accumulated: 22056.0 km) Country: USA 2005.05.27. [Belle Plaine; green road sign on Hwy. 1: "Pense 12km"] - [Regina; cross of Glen Cairn Rd. & N. Service Rd. (parallel to Hwy. 1 E.)]. 46km, 4:21:38h. . Excl. food, water, road-finding, toilet etc. stops Total 22015km. Start: 9:47am. Finish: 14:42pm. Time GMT - 8 hours +11c, grey overcast and heavy wind at start. 13c and same at finish. Another easy run stage as I had the prairie wind almost blow me the way from Belle Plaine to Regina :-) Regina is the capital of the Saskatchewan province, has a population of about 200 000 people and is the home of the national Training Academy for the Canadian Mounted Police. Word has it that it started out as a "tent settlement" named "Pile O' Bones" back in 1882! But besides this, Regina is also the host of some of the most scary highway traffic I have encountered the last few thousand kilometres. But as always in Canada: nice people when you get to talk w. them :-)! As for the tent business then it looks like I will be in for a bit of that the next few days after a period of motel luxury, which was necessary to restore the motivation and strength. But the open stretch out towards the Manitoba province doesn?t appear to offer much of a choice: tent at roadside.. or tent a bit away from roadside ! ;-) |
