10km into today?s stage the front wheel on the baby jogger that I am
pushing started to wobble, making the steering a bit unsafe with the heavy
oncoming traffic on the Trans Canada Highway.
It turned out to be a flat caused by some pieces of the debris of blown
truck tires and the metal wires/insulation inside them which there has
been a lot of on the rough shoulder of the road lately.
I tried my hand at making a quick roadside repair of the inner tube, but
unfortunately there were too many small metal wires that were stuck in the
tire, so I decided to run another 10km with the flat and then find a
finish spot and do a full repair.
The two rear tires are stronger and especially bought for this run, but as
there isn?t as much weight on the front tire I had chosen to settle with
the standard (nylon) tire which comes with the jogger. Not a very good
decision, I realise now while spending the afternoon picking metal wire
out of it.. ;-)
