World Run I / ReportsGoto: 2005-05-08 2005-05-10 USA 2005-05-09: 27Distance today: 41.0 km (Accumulated: 21329.0 km) Country: USA 2005.05.09. [Calgary; ?the Eau Claire Centre, 101 ? 3. Street, S.W.] - [Cross of Hwy. 1 & Hwy. 24 South]. (Crew all stage: Ben Kromand & Joseph). 41km, 3:41:14h. Excl. food, water, road-finding, toilet etc. stops Total 21288km. Start: 10:22am. Finish: 16:01pm. Time GMT - 8 hours +08c, overcast and light wind at start. 11c, overcast and wind same at finish. - The first stage without Peter since he joined me at Vancouver! He is safely on his way back home (via Vancouver & our mutual friend Karl) and will now discover the Rocky Mountains in quite another way; from the window seat in the bus from Calgary to Vancouver :-) He made a tremendous effort, becoming an ultra runner during the 900km we ran together; fought his way through injuries and did the daily reports!! Thanks for your time and enthusiasm Peter; it was certainly nice to have company across the Rockies, and even more so by such a positive and humorous person :-) During today?s running I still had good company, though: Ben Kromand who has looked after us the last days crewed excellently and from his bicycle Joseph from South Korea kept my spirits up!! As you can see from the pictures there was also a short TV-interview along the way (about 1hour of talk & running..!) done by ?Global News? of Calgary/Canada who had taken their time to come out on the roads to have a closer look at what was going on and where this Danish ?prairie express? was going ;-) - And prairie it is; as from today the landscape has been almost totally flat with green farmlands which in many ways remind me of the contours of my home country, which lies about 5000km of running and a bit of flying down the road? |
