World Run I / ReportsGoto: 2005-03-06 2005-03-08 USA 2005-03-07: 6Distance today: 49.0 km (Accumulated: 18748.0 km) Country: USA 2005.03.07 half of the stage). (Crew: Jurgen Ankenbrand, all stage). 49km, 5:03:49h. Excl. food, water, road-finding, toilet etc. stops. Total 18.707km. Start: 9:54am. Finish: 15:45pm. Time GMT - 8 hours +19c, almost overcast and light wind at start. 23c, clear and same wind at finish. Together with Lucian and his friend Tzvetan, I started from the North point of the Golden Gate Bride and headed for the steep winding hills on Highway One. The bridge was build between 1933 and 1937 and was the longest suspension bridge in the world by that time. Finishing yesterdays stage I ran across its 2 miles with a beautiful view down on the S. F. skyline, ships and surfers ! As you can hopefully see from today?s pictures, the stage had many changing sceneries: from busy city to suburbs, dense forest, silent mountain valleys, ocean coast and finally green grass fields near the finish in Olema ! Also I much enjoyed the friendly company on the scenic run :-) PS: We had no gprs signal at the finish point, therefore it wasn?t possible to transmit the finish photo instantly to the web (I used the back-up camera as usual instead and with Jurgen Ankenbrand to verify). Probably we won?t have signal tomorrow either, so the next days reports may be delayed. |
