World Run I / ReportsGoto: 2005-01-09 2005-01-11 Australia 2005-01-10:Distance today: 45.0 km (Accumulated: 16570.0 km) Country: Australia 2005.01.10. [Mundrabilla Roadhouse/settlement; green rds on Eyre A1: "Mundrabilla"] - [green road sign on Eyre A1: "MA 70km"]. (Crew: P. Gray all stage). 45km, 4:54:06h. Excl. food, water, road-finding, toilet etc. stops. Total 16.529km. Start: 18:15pm. Finish: 23:58pm. Time GMT + 10:30 hours (NB: South Australian Time!) +39c, a few clouds and heavy wind at start. 20c, dark and light wind at finish. - The heat returns! As you can see from the temperatures the heat is certainly returning. We have got reports that some of the Roadhouses up along the course reached 45-47c during midday. At Madura we enjoyed about 41c. So it makes sense to keep the running to afternoon and night :-) Yet, as it?s a very dry heat like in any other desert (I have some seasons trained in Sahara/ Middle Egypt for heat-adaptation), its actually not as bad as you could expect. My personal opinion is that the June - July months in Middle Siberia with high humidity and around 30 - 35c was by far more difficult to feel comfortable in; not mentioning running in ;-) But that might be just as much due to the heaps of biting insects which are much fewer out here! |
