Goto: 12004-07-24 12004-07-26 1Russia

2004-07-25:
Distance today: 46.0 km (Accumulated: 8822.0 km)
Country: Russia

Route Report: Irkutsk > - .

Irkutsk ultra runner group ran all stage with A. & J.

46km, 4:16:54 h (J.), Excl. food, water, toilet etc. stop.
Total 8781km. (A. and J.).

Start 5:40am (K.), 8:46 (A., J. and 5 Irkutsk ultra runners).
Finish 13:43pm (J.), 13:49 ( A.), 13:58 (K.).
Time GMT + 8 hours.

+20c., no wind and overcast at start.
+23c., no wind and clear sky at finish.

Now the hills turn into mountains. Our highpoint was at 945m with three
11% 'hill climbs' of =300m up and down the steep green hillsides.

By the group of strong Irkutsk ultra runners that accompanied us through
the entire stage we were told: "don?t worry, it gets much steeper as you
round the south cliffs where you will enter the Baikal Mountains". What a
relief ;-))

But what makes plenty up for the heavy hill running is the almost
fairytale landscape that each new horizon reveal when we run over the top.

The Irkutsk ultra runners are by the way lead by a charismatic about 60
year old runner - Alexander Kitov - who virtually shines with good mood
and friendly remarks !! Good helped by an impeccable set of gold-teeth :-)
