World Run I / ReportsGoto:
![]() Distance today: 35.0 km (Accumulated: 18306.0 km) Country: USA 2005.02.26 35km, 3:40:22h. Excl. food, water, road-finding, toilet etc. stops. Total 18.265km. (Crew: Jurgen Ankenbrand, all stage). Start: 09:47am. Finish: 14:19pm. Time GMT - 8 hours +19c, almost clear and no wind at start. 21c, slight overcast and light wind at finish. - Today was the last stage with Jurgen as crew before he must go back to L.A. again. He has done an outstanding effort in supporting through the first important days in this last continent of my run. I have much enjoyed the humour of this "exiled German" as well as his crew skills :-) It has been easy to tell that he has many years? experience of international event crewing: recently Trans Europe Footrace (Lisabon to Moscow) and Badwater (U.S.). Also we found out we have some mutual ultra runner contacts "back home" - Stephan, Uli, Ingo and Robert :-) As far as the running is concerned you may have noticed that I am running along Highway 1 and not, as planned, Highway 101 on my route to San Francisco. Runners are not allowed on this stretch of the 101 (Freeway), but additionally the Highway 1 offer some truly spectacular ocean views! However this will put me 1 or 2 days behind schedule - also due to slightly shorter stages during these first 10days, mainly as I need to adjust to day temperatures 20-30c lower than what I got used to through the last 2500km in Australia. By the way: as you can see from the pictures I got a much needed haircut - Sheri at "Bella Gente" in San Luis Obispo kept her shop open extra time so I could make it after the finish of the daily running (usually they have closed by that time). Thanks Sheri :-) |
