Goto: 12004-04-18 12004-04-20 1Russia

2004-04-19:
Distance today: 47.0 km (Accumulated: 5198.0 km)
Country: Russia

Route Report: Catka - Zlatoust (roadsign "1736" with exit-road to Zlato).

47km., 4:05:59h. (Alexander +34min., Kazuka +1:36h.).

Police escort untill Zlato.

A stage with few difficult climbs, the main part through long deep valleys.
But final 6km. was fom ca. 300m. to the mountain top finish at 910m..
I bgan at good pace (5min./km.) and was soon alone in front with police
escort and the empty darkgreen valleysides.

At silent moments the only sounds is the shoes tapping on the cold tarmac
and the wind "talking" in distant treetops far above.

As each of us finished we had an russian TV-interview on the cold
mountaintop.
Even here in Ural we are often met by media during the run!
For example a local TV station followed the last 35km. of yesterdays stage
- perhaps "the mountain chase" gave some sunday entertainment?!

At evening, after dinner, we introduced a new thing in the World Run: The
Map Meeting!

After nearly 4 months of running and beeing on the road, we have the need
for an "institution/forum" where problems can be debated and plans made.
Especially now where we must mediate between Japanese, Danish and Russian
mentality.

The Map Meeting serves this purpose as well as its formal aim: to talk
through the details and logistics of the nexts stage.
Its first version was a succes, and its my impression that it for example
is usefull for Kazuka to have a place where its OK to mention problems or
misunderstandings that else would be unnoticed by us because of (a
pleasant) japanese politeness.
But ofcourse we also simply have to detailplan the next day stages as they
now are expected to become "Siberian-difficult", if they not allready
where:-)
