World Run I / ReportsGoto: 2004-04-12 2004-04-14 Russia 2004-04-13:Distance today: 62.0 km (Accumulated: 4852.0 km) Country: Russia Route Report: Detylin - Kyzarenko. 62km., 6:54h., (Kazuka and Jesper +21min.). Police escort. Again today our road was prolonged a bit from the shortest possible road. But I begin to get an idea why! Besides being an oil-rich region with many roadside pumps, it also has some spots with big heavy-industry plants behind high fences. Our all-day police escort now seems more keen than usual about where we make food/drink/etc. stops. As far as I understand this part of the route was off-limits before Glasnost. The running was by the way some of the most taxing since "winter tent days" in Europe. We had +1C., hard rain and plenty of wind in open terrain - the worst kind of conditions for this kind of running. Hypertermia quick become a problem. Kazuka and I struggled with it, while Alexander seemed untouched. I lost feeling in the left foot (windside) after 3 hours and had problems with finger and hand mobility same side. While there are many enjoyable days, this was one of them where all you can think about is a prayer that its soon over - which it wasn't. |
